Some of the earliest computer programmers were women during World War II. According to Dr. Sadie Plant, programming is essentially feminine-not simply because women, from Ada Lovelace to Grace Hopper, were the first programmers, but because of the historical and theoretical ties between programming and what Freud called the quintessentially feminine invention of weaving, between female sexuality as mimicry and the mimicry grounding Turing’s vision of computers as universal machines.

Fun fact- programming was considered “women’s work”, like being a secretary, because it wasn’t considered terribly difficult. And I can’t remember exactly what it was, but after WWII dudes were like “no, no. this is hard. we should actually be doing this. move over. lol.”

And yes. That’s a direct quote.

I was feeling nostalgic so I watched some LOTR. I never really picked up on this quote before, but now that I have, I’m just blown away. So much wisdom in these epics.

This is how I feel this about my manager. But it’s worse. A lot worse. I really hate him. I’ve never been filled with so much hate for somebody. And I’m the nicest goddamn person you’ll ever meet! But seriously. I’m scared of the person I’m becoming because… well, I’m not saying it’s me, but someone I know fantasizes about him getting whacked. And that person could totally make it look like an accident.
